Tucked away in the remote woods of northern Pennsylvania lies Cherry Springs, a small yet extraordinary state park. What sets Cherry Springs apart is its breathtaking night sky. Renowned as the darkest spot in the Northern Hemisphere, it offers one of the best stargazing experiences in the world.

How to get there
Since it is so isolated, the only way to get to Cherry Springs is by car. The drive is, however, almost as beautiful as the stars themselves, the hilly, forest surroundings are endless. For the best views, get here at the end of October, when the leaves start to change, a good view point not too far is Losey Vista. Furthermore, the woods are full of animals, so go for a drive and see what you spot!
Where to stay
There are two options for accommodation in Cherry Springs, either you set up your tent and car in the stargazing fields, or you book an AirBnB in the area. We did the latter (we stayed in The Nine Mile Lakeside Cottages Motel, which was just perfect), since we did not have a tent with us. Either way, make your way to the fields at night and you will be overwhelmed by the stars. Get yourself an app to see where the constellations are in the sky, and find them all!

Where to eat
The closest town is Coudersport, where you will find a lovely tavern called … with classic American food for dinner. For breakfast the day after, we went to the small lumber town of Galeton, where we ate the Plaza Cafe. Both the food and the service was amazing, definitely worth a try!
