7. Cabo de Gata
Located about an hour from the city of Almeria, I stumbled upon Cabo de Gata accidentally, when my friend booked an airbnb in the province of Almeria rather than the city. It ended up being one of my favorite weekends in Spain. The small town consists of only a few streets, and if you look along the coast you will see the large Natural Park with beautiful wildlife and ocean views. If you are visiting Marbella or Malaga, it is definitely worth the short drive to escape the city and immerse yourself in nature.

The beautiful mountain town of Frigiliana is not far from the Nerja beaches! The narrow streets lined with flower boxes and cobblestone roads make it the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon. The village is known for its sweet wine, which is sometimes sold for as little as one euro for a glass! You can also hike up to the top of the town, where the Arabic ruins of the 9th century Lizar Castle can be found.

Jaen is the province with the most olive oil production in Spain. There are many things to do when visiting, like exploring the Jaen Cathedral, or climining to the top of Santa Catalina Castle for a spectacular sunset view. Considering the fact that the city is surrounded by olive tree orchards, you definitely can’t skip an olive tasting tour.
